NEW BEDFORD – Chowderfest is back, and 20 SouthCoast restaurants will be participating in a friendly competition – all they need is your taste buds.
On October 9, from noon to 5 p.m., the 16th Annual Blount Fine Foods New Bedford Seaport Chowderfest will be held at Pier 3 in New Bedford Harbor.

Participating food vendors are 110 grill, Alianca, Becky’s kitchen, Black whale, Bistro Butternut, Coffee Italy, Surf & Turf Cove, DoCo, Faneek, Pot Vert caterer, Hong-Meas, Kilburn Mill Event Center, Merrill is at the water’s edge, Moby Dick Brewing Co., No Joke Smoke BBQ, Marinated cold meats, Drunken toboggan and Whaler’s Tavern.
At 3.15pm, samples will be offered to guests while listening to live music from “Played Out”.
Chowderfest will announce the winner of the “People’s Choice Awards” and “Best Of” at 4:00 pm.
The Judge’s Choice Awards will be decided by a blind tasting test conducted by Chef Stephen Coe, Kait Walsh of WPRI-12 and David Greene, recently retired from the NBPS.
Coe is the recent winner of the “Food Network”Chopped: Beat Bobby Flay. “He also holds the titles of” World Bacon Champion “, winner of the” World Food Championships “and” Grill Master “of the Food Network” Chopped Grill Masters “series.

Last year’s first place winners were Mike’s restaurant for the best clam chowder, Cover Surf and Turf for the best seafood chowder, Alianca for the best kale soup and Cafe Italia for the best signature soup – Tuscan soup.
Chowderfest will also offer smaller tents with food and drink as well as beer from Buzzards Bay Brewery and Moby Dick Brewing Co. and cocktails served by the Cocktail guru. Coffee will also be available at Dunkin ‘.
Tickets are $ 15 in advance, $ 18 per day, $ 5 for children ages 6 to 12, free for ages 5 and under. VIP tickets are also available for $ 35 and include early entry, drink voucher, VIP bracelet, tasting / Frisbee tray, entry to win a gift basket and much more
