On the Oakville Transit bus home from work and looking for a place to order dinner? Wondering if the Toronto Blue Jays won this afternoon?

Local residents won’t have to wait until they get home to jump on the internet for those answers or just surf the web. The City of Oakville now offers free Wi-Fi on all Oakville Transit buses.

Free Wi-Fi is another way the City continues to improve connectivity for the community through its Oakville Digital Plan.

The free network is available on all conventional and specialized buses and can be used by all bus passengers who board with a Wi-Fi enabled device such as a smartphone, laptop or tablet.

“In today’s digital world, easy and equitable access to online information, tools and services is more important than ever,” said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. “By accessing free Wi-Fi on Oakville Transit, customers will be able to use their transit time for leisure or work by connecting and chatting with family, friends or co-workers while traveling.

“Oakville’s digital plan continues to guide the city’s efforts in our commitment to keeping our community connected through digital innovation.

Passengers can access Oakville Transit Wi-Fi by going to their settings on their device and selecting OTPublic.

A pop-up page will appear describing the terms and conditions of using the free wireless network. Once logged in, customers will be redirected to the Oakville Transit home page.

Earlier this year, free public Wi-Fi, digital information kiosks and real-time parking information were provided in downtown Oakville.

Free Wi-Fi is also available at 35 locations across the city, including City Hall, arenas, recreation and community centers and libraries.
