Gym etiquette and the rules of the road


If you work out regularly in a gym, I’m sure you know the typical gym etiquette.

Some will say this is just common sense, while others have become oblivious to the “rules of the road”. Let me enlighten you a bit.

  1. The weight bench in the gym is not your personal desk chair. Do your sets and reps, then let someone else do the trick. Just sitting around texting your cell phone or surfing Facebook doesn’t justify taking time out on the bench.
  2. Your mom isn’t going to come clean up after you. Throw away your water bottle if you’re done with it – don’t leave it on the floor, on a chair, or on the windowsill. I see him often. Crazy.
  3. Wipe down the equipment. The gym is a breeding ground for bacteria and colds which spread like wildfire here. Each gym has sanitary napkins or sprays. Use them.

If you see someone who may not know how to use a piece of equipment, show them. If you see someone overweight, support them, encourage them, and stop judging. We are all here for a reason.

We have the opportunity every day – in more environments than just the gym – to support, encourage, hold the door, let someone else go first, say thank you, bless you ” when you hear a sneeze ”.

Be the one who takes the highest path and help others. I know all of my friends make the right choices when given the chance. Believe me, your life will be fuller when you “give back”.
