From today the hugely popular Derwent ferry service will operate on Saturdays, providing another transport option between Hobart City and Bellerive.
The success and popularity of the Derwent Ferry weekday service has extended it to Saturdays to meet the needs of weekend shoppers and diners, as well as our retail and hospitality staff and warehouse workers. emergency and health services, providing a welcome boost to small businesses on both sides. from the river.
Services will operate between Bellerive and Hobart from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Saturday.
The choice of ferry or metro-bus services offers the traveling public options for crossing the river, while leaving the car at home.
Passenger feedback on the existing weekday service continues to be overwhelmingly positive, with the majority of passengers now saying the ferry is their preferred choice for commuters.
With 130,000 passengers having already made the choice to take the ferry on its weekday crossings, we have listened to passengers and local traders to extend the service and are quietly optimistic that Saturdays will be just as popular.
The new Saturday crossings offer passengers the chance to make the journey from the east coast to visit Salamanca’s iconic markets, Hobart’s waterfront food scene, shop in town or simply enjoy the river.
In the other direction, passengers can head to Bellerive to relax in the surrounding waterfront district, Kangaroo Bay or Bellerive Beach while providing easy access to the Rosny shopping district, Tasmanian Produce Market and Blundstone arena.
As the warmer months and festive season approach, passengers will now also be able to plan their trip to attend events such as the Holiday Season, the annual Christmas Pageant and BBL Christmas Eve , all without the stress of finding a car. Park.
Importantly, the ferry continues to be another way for us to reduce travel times and reduce congestion on our roads and provide commuters with a pleasant travel option.
