SAIL-Bhilai Steel procurement boosts Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail project


Bhilai Steel Plant, the flagship branch of the state-owned Steel Authority of India (SAIL), has supplied over 80,000 tonnes of steel for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor project.

The 508 km project, due for completion in October 2028, will link Mumbai and Ahmedabad via a high-speed railway where trains will run at a speed of 320 km per hour. The bullet train will only take 2 hours and 7 minutes to cover the distance.

The rail network will pass through Mumbai, Thane and Palghar in Maharashtra; and Valsad, Navsari, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Kheda and Ahmedabad in Gujarat. The National High Speed ​​Rail Corporation runs the project.

Bhilai Steel Plant in Durg district of Chhattisgarh fabricated 500 D grade TMT bars in various dimensions for use in the project. The company produces high-strength TMT bars with earthquake and corrosion resistance for use in major national projects.

In the first quarter of this fiscal year, SAIL-Bhilai’s merchant plant and modern bar and bar plant together supplied more than 15,000 tons of 500 D grade TMT bars in various sizes, the carrier said. -word of the company. Previously, SAIL-BSP had supplied over 65,000 tonnes of TMT bars in 500 D grade for the same project.

SAIL-Bhilai’s TMT bars are used in the construction of pillars and beams of the High Speed ​​Rail Corridor Project which will support the bearing capacity of the steel bridges that are fabricated for the laying of the High Speed ​​Rail Corridor.

The plant’s merchant plant also produces TMT bars in Fe 500 D and Fe 550 D grades with anti-seismic properties. Additionally, HCR or High Corrosion Resistance properties are provided to meet customer requirements.

Besides dams, thermal, hydroelectric and nuclear projects, bridges, highways, flyovers, tunnels and high-rise buildings all over the country, SAIL-Bhilai’s TMT bars have been used in some landmark projects such as Bandra-Worli Sea Link Bridge, Statue of Unity, Agra Expressway, on which fighter jets have landed, and in several bridges and tunnels in northern and northeastern India.

In addition to TMT bars and rods in Fe 500 D grade, Bar & Rod Mill also deploys TMT products in Fe 550 grade and SAIL SeQR grade, introduced by SAIL for retail customers for home construction etc.

Bhilai Steel Plant has also supplied SAE 1008 grade wire rod to Nepal. It is used by wire drawing units for making GI wires used for making gabion boxes installed to stop landslides in hilly terrain.
