The Aegean Tour ended with great success on August 25 when the electric sailboat PELAGO docked in Lavrio. As the excitement of action gives way to data collection and project results, the Aegean Cargo Sailing team successfully closes another cycle of partnerships, transportation and tourism experiences.
In the space of two months, PELAGO managed to cover 1,200 nautical miles achieving full autonomy in wind and solar energy and to complete the pilot implementation of electrification in its zero carbon footprint sea voyages. At the same time, it organized 4 awareness-raising events in cooperation with local authorities, institutions and producers in Kea, Chios, Ikaria and Syros, and discussed with boaters in the passages of Trizonia, Poros and Kalymnos about the possibility of reaching to a sustainable model of mobility and transport adapted to the requirements of climate change mitigation and environmental protection. Starting in April, it made transfers of 60 different products from 38 producers in 15 outlets between 26 Aegean islands, strengthening the existing network of island producers and the cultivation of ecological products and expanding its partnerships with retailers, stores and restaurants that otherwise remain unconnected.
The Power of Sails has also helped this year support our vision of an eco-friendly shipping and transportation project that connects with land and retail, creating a niche market for small island producers. to develop their business and carry their products with the wind. At the same time, it brought us together with visitors from all over the world who traveled with us, discovered the culture and flavors of the islands, visited the facilities of the producers and enjoyed their holidays in an ecological and responsible way.
For all the above reasons, our efforts are approved and encouraged for the expansion of our network, our partnerships and the services we offer. The next step in this direction for the great traveler Pelago is the Terra Madre fair organized by Slow Food International from September 22 to 26 in Turin, where more than 600 exhibitors active in the agri-food sector will meet.
We would like to thank all the crew and the volunteers for having contributed to our actions, our partners at the Dock, the Green Fund, Raycap, the Helidoni Foundation, Cocomat.bike, Slow Food and of course all the producers, businesses and institutions of the islands for their trust and support for our work.
