Wilmington businesses rank among the fastest growing in the United States


Eleven Wilmington-area companies are on the list of the 5,000 fastest-growing private companies nationwide.

The annual list, which was published last week by Inc. Magazine, includes a Surf City company that makes seafood steamers, a Wilmington trucking and logistics company and a pet-focused company from company that provides boarding, grooming and veterinary services.

Inc. Magazine reports on business news in the United States and is well known for its annual ranking of the nation’s fastest growing private companies. Companies were eligible for this year’s list if they generated at least $100,000 in revenue in 2018 and at least $2 million in 2021. Companies were then ranked by their percentage of revenue growth between 2018 and 2021.

The top spot on this year’s Inc. 5,000 list went to New Jersey-based BlockFi, a company working to bridge the gap between traditional finance and cryptocurrency. The company has recorded revenue growth of more than 245,600% over the past three years.

Closer to home, the innovative Wilmington financial group cracked the top 100 of the list, landing at No. 78. Over the past three years, the company has grown by 5,232%. The company, which helps insurance agents and managers brand and grow their business, also made the list in 2020.

Local human resources firms LRB Group and Gibson Consultants of Wilmington are also on the list. LRB Group landed 277th with 1,982% three-year growth and Gibson Consultants ranked 802nd with 788% business growth.

In a press release, Jim Gibson, president of Gibson Consultants, wrote that the ranking stems from the hard work of the company’s employees, a commitment to improving efficiency “without skimping on quality” and maintaining a corporate culture that values ​​people.

“With this recipe, we were able to capitalize on the economic health of our niche industry,” Gibson wrote.

Summit Logistics Group, another Wilmington-based company, has also worked to take advantage of opportunities in its industry.

The company delivers products from manufacturers to customers, working with all types of businesses – from those requiring overseas shipment to others with a transit distance of a few miles, Daniel Fountain said, director of the company’s operations.

Although the company has addressed some of the supply chain issues that have impacted businesses nationwide, it has focused on controlling what it can, Fountain said.

Summit Logistics Group has grown 1,654% over the past three years, ranking 353rd on the list. Fountain credits the hard work of the company’s employees and customer support for the company’s growth.

“We’re definitely a growing company, and getting this award definitely means that,” he said, “but going forward, we want to continue to grow at a rapid pace, and that’s something we work hard for day in and day out.”

Wilmington-based software company Vantaca landed 628th on the list with 994% growth between 2018 and 2021. The company provides software services that help homeowner associations manage their operations. Last fall, the company announced its intention to investing $4.9 million in New Hanover County and creating more than 100 jobs.

Two Pender County companies are also on this year’s list. Topsail Steamer, a Surf City company that makes single-use seafood steamers, has grown 697% over the past three years, while Maven, a corporate-owned roofing and solar company veterans in Hampstead, has increased by 689% over this period. Topsail Steamer ranked #913 and Maven ranked #927 on the list.

Next, Catalyst Clinical Research ranked #1,077 on the list with 605% growth over the past three years. The company provides research support to the global biopharmaceutical industry through its Catalyst Flex and Catalyst Oncology divisions. This is the third time the company has made the Inc. 5,000 list.

Rounding out Wilmington’s list of businesses are advertising and marketing company Optivate Agency, pet care company Pawville, and S&S Services Group.

Optivate Agency was ranked #2,138 on the list with 271% growth over the past three years. The company, which specializes in retail promotions, also made the list in 2021.

Pawville has grown 143% over the past three years and ranked No. 3,602 on this year’s list. The company offers pet boarding, daycare and grooming services, as well as veterinary care at its nine locations, many of which are in the Wilmington area.

S&S Services Group, a company that works with homeowners associations, was ranked No. 4091 with 116% growth over three years.
